Studio 2 the Junction, Cambridge.
Renowned playwright Helen Edmundson will be coming to Menagerie to give a workshop on writing plays and adaptations. Helen’s work has been staged at the National Theatre, the Royal Court and the RSC, and she has written numerous plays for Shared Experience. In 2005 her adaptation of Jamila Gavin’s novel Coram Boy at the National was both a box-office and critical success. Her two-part adaptation of War and Peace is currently being revived by Shared Experience and is on a national tour.
This is an unmissable opportunity to spend a day developing your writing under the guidance of a top playwright. The workshop will consist largely of writing exercises, so attendees should bring paper and pens along, ready to start writing. There will also be the opportunity to discuss your current projects with Helen. There are only 12 places available to ensure that everyone gets the most out of the day.
If you book before 31st March the workshop costs £25 per person. Places booked after the 31st March will cost £35 each.

Hotbed is an extraordinary opportunity to try out a new work. With an outstanding artistic team and an acting ensemble company of nine, we can bring to life the best new short plays (up to thirty mins). Past writers for Hotbed include Naomi Wallace, Steve Waters, Fraser Grace, Tim Etchells and Diane Samuels to name just a few. Scripts should be one act - no other stipulation other than that they will work in a new writing festival with an ensemble company (oh and we are looking for some funny stuff this year along with the quirky and brilliant - all three would be great!!). This year we will have up to nine actors avaiable, but realistically three actors per play - with flexibility for that brilliant nine-hander of course!

The Atlantic Ocean between them, Charles Darwin in England and Asa Gray at Harvard work to reconcile orthodox Christian beliefs with Darwin’s new theory of evolution by natural selection.

ITEM: SUPERHEROES IN THE 21ST CENTURY DATE: 22/12/2005 | 13.31 GMT NEWS: As part of an individual project, Menagerie's Associate Artistic Director, Patrick Morris will present work from the Improvisation Project, a theatre and music collaboration for which Patrick has gathered together a group of performers to join work with pianist David Dolan and Greek playwright Elena Penga.
The project explores improvisation between actors and classical musicians and Patrick has been working with the theme of Superheroes.
A public sharing event and reception will take place at West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge on Friday 13th January from 7.30pm.

In an arid, occupied country, a man has died while under arrest. A triangular battle for his memory ensues between his mother, his lover and an obsessive stranger. Taking no prisoners, Mary, Mary is an uncompromising and searing examination of the limits and mystery of love which brilliantly conjures a world where personal feelings matter less than passionate belief and the most powerful logic is that of the gun and the bomb.

ITEM: TWO INTO WAR TOUR ENDS AT BIRMINGHAM REP DATE: 16/05/2005 | 12.06 GMT NEWS: Menagerie's touring production of Two Into War had it's final show at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on 14th May.
In addiiton to The Rep, Two Into War has also appeard at Bristol Old Vic, Riverside Studios, Mercury Theatre Colchester and The Junction in Cambridge.
One reviewer notes that ‘Menagerie deliver simple storytelling at its best’ (see Whatsonstage.com for full text) while Western Daily Press describes the production as ‘eloquent, funny and poignant’.
